A Tea-riffic Fundraiser!
On Thursday the 27th of May, Rotaractors got up nice and early to host an "Australia's Biggest Morning Tea" at Macquarie University. This is a Cancer Council event that raised over $10 million across Australia last year.
Macquarie Uni Rotaract had lovely cupcakes, tea and a raffle in the hope of raising as much money as we could for the Cancer Council. Epping Rotary were kind enough to donate first prize for the raffle - Stamford High Tea for 4 valued at $112. 2nd and 3rd prizes were customisable mugs from Gloria Jeans.
Our target was to raise $500, which we thought was ambitious yet achievable. We sold 150 cupcakes, many cups of tea and over 300 raffle tickets as well as already having $55 in online donations. This brought our grand total to $780, a sensational effort and well surpassing our goal.
Holstein and I (Jack) then went to present a quick event run-down at Epping Rotary's meeting, and they had a 'fines session' and gave us the money raised there, which brought our total up to $885.
The event ran really well, despite a quick downpour of rain in the middle. The success was due to the hard work put in by a lot of different members, and it was great to see everyone getting involved. Special mentions to Holstein for organising the event, Misha and Anita for being in charge of the raffle tickets (and Misha again for helping me sell the remaining cupcakes down at main campus), Billy for coming to sell raffle tickets with me on Monday so I wasn't all alone, and everyone who turned up on the day to help out.
