The first major Rotaract event of the year was held in the water-logged Wollongong from the 10th to the 12th of February. Hosted by the Rotaract clubs of the Southern Highlands and the University of Wollongong, the Rotaract Games combined knowledge, teamwork and competition to determine which Rotaract club would rein supreme! The clubs – Macquarie University, Lower North Shore, Monash, Como-Jannali, Southport, Crosslands, University of Wollongong, Southern Highlands and the Central Coast represented NSW, VIC, QLD and the ACT – a phenomenal turnout. Our fantastic team consisted of Jack, Holstein, Fran, Elyse, Alex, Shellie, Ricky and Chris.

Flood warnings and heavy rainfall washed away the sporty plans for day one, but a back-up plan was ready. There was Youtube trivia, building the best tower out of only marshmallows and spaghetti, silent ball and theatre sports to keep us entertained all day. Macquarie performed well on the first day, placing in the top 3 in almost all activities.

The rain eased up in the afternoon, ready for the trivia night. Did you know that a group of owls is called a parliament? Did you know that the most devastating earthquake ever occurred in China? If so, you would have made a great addition to our team!

The sun came out on Sunday, just in time for the Rotaract Challenge. This was an all-inclusive ‘amazing race’ style competition that began near the beach, continued through the shopping district and ended up at the university. There were questions to answer and challenges to complete along the way.

The games finished on a high, with Macquarie Rotaract placing second overall! Well done guys! Lower North Shore were the winners, which we were pleased about, as they are an energetic, new club that we hope to work more closely with this year. A huge thankyou to University of Wollongong and Southern Highlands Rotaract clubs for hosting this event – our team really enjoyed themselves.
